1.There are 19 different types of whale

Blue whale-Aggressive hunting in the 1900s by whalers seeking whaleoil drove them to the brink of extinction. Between 1900 and the mid-1960s, some 360,000 blue whales were slaughtered. They finally came under protection with the 1966 International Whaling Commission, but they've managed only a minor recovery since then.

Fin whale-Recent surveys indicate that there are now fewer than 15,000 fin whales in the Southern Hemisphere and around 40,000 in the Northern Hemisphere. Classified as Endangered (EN A1d) on the 2010 IUCN Red List of Threatened Species. Rorquals have long been hunted for their meat, blubber, oil and baleen.

Sei whale-Like all whalesSei Whales also suffer from commercial hunting and whaling. ... Sei Whales are protected under the Marine Mammal Protection Act of 1972 and the Endangered Species Act of 1973.

Humpback whale-By 18th century, the commercial value of Humpback whales increased and that made them a preferred target for hunters.

Bowhead whale-The bowhead whale's conservation status is listed as “least concern” overall, but some populations (such as near Greenland) are endangered. They have traditionally been hunted by commercial whalers until the last century for oil, meat, and baleen.

North atlantic right whale -The North-Atlantic right whale is one of the most endangered of all large whales, with a long history of human exploitation and no signs of recovery despite protection from whaling since the 1930s. Northern right whale mother & calf (Eubalaena glacialis) off the Atlantic coast of Florida.
